On to the half-way point...almost

Wrapped up another great Saturday long run. The goal was 5 miles and we ended up finishing up at 4.9 miles...just short of the goal. Bummer!

The above picture is the up-and-back route we ran today.

We took a similar route as our recent Tuesday night runs out of Gateway Park.

We started in Georgetown at the running store, headed over the Key Bridge, then picked up the Mount Vernon Trail along the Potomac and followed that almost to the Memorial Bridge.

I motored along. Surprisingly, the last mile felt so much better than the earlier section. It definitely helped to be with Erin who is a good pacer-buddy. The last two miles we ran with one of the coaches which was fun.

The toughest part was anticipating what I call "the monster" --- a four-part incline that takes you over Route 66 and into Rosalyn. It's location toward the end of the run is BRUTAL. As I learned from Max, just focus on the area 3 feet in front of you and push yourself forward. That trick definitely helped this time.

As I rounded the corner on my way back over the Key Bridge, I came upon our first casualty of the run...a girl on the ground who was throwing up. She looked over exerted. Such a bummer. The good news is that she seems fine and made it back to our starting point.

It was so invigorating to pick up the pace as I crossed the Key Bridge back into Georgetown. Though it was humid and the sun was a bit blinding, it was a beautiful muggy July day in DC. My favorite part...is always the finish!

After the run and some stretching we headed back to the store to learn about hydration and gels. Very interesting. The guys in the store are so nice and knowledgeable

The goal for next week is to get out 2-3 times and complete 7 miles before we meet again on Saturday. Rockin!

Mark & I are now off to deal with bathroom tiles...in advance of our bathroom remodel.
