The first day of winter training is finally behind me! It was so nice to see so many familiar faces --- both coaches and trainees.
Both the marathon and half-marathon training groups met in Georgetown this morning at 8am to get the official welcome, break into groups, meet the coaches...and of course get our training t-shirts.
I am so glad I decided to stay with the half-marathoners vs moving up to train with the marathoners. We did a flat 4.5 mile up and back on the Capital Crescent Trail. The marathoners did the same trail, but extended it to 8 miles. 8 miles on your first day!!!! Holy cow. Here's a picture of Fletcher's Boathouse --- the half way mark of our run.
I had a pretty good run. It was sprinkling at times and once you got rolling you started peeling out of your longer layers. Lots of interesting conversations on the trail. Great way to catch up on the gossip.
I'm trying hard to run the Saturday long runs at a slower pace since it will ultimately be beneficial in the longer term, but it is hard.
All in all, looking forward to winter (brrrrrrr) training. GO TEAM!
