This morning we headed out for a 7-mile loop. It was a wonderful run! We started out of Adams Morgan, headed up Connecticut Ave past all the churches, dropped into Rock Creek Park, headed to the zoo, up out of Rock Creek Park and on to Adams Morgan.
I LOVE this route!!! It was so quiet, the leaves were all swirling around us and the water was rushing along the creek. It was like a dream. A truly perfect day --- but for the chilly weather. After 2 miles, you warm up enough that you stop feeling so cold and are able to give yourself completely over to the experience.
I had a great run. It was truly perfect.
The end of this route is the same killer route that I did last season out of this location --- the one that ended with a killer run up Adams Mill Road. Talk about a serious vertical ascent. This is the same hill that crushed me last year and caused me to give before I got to the top. I still hear Coach John yelling down at me last year to correct my posture, pick up my feet and keep it moving. I recall wanting to launch a string of curse words in his direction that morning.
This time, as I rounded the corner and started my ascent I knew that I was not going to let Adams Mill Road get me. I attacked the hill in segments which made it more manageable. Don't get me wrong --- it was hard and my legs were screaming at the top, but I ran the whole way. I OWN THAT HILL.
Dear Adams Mill Road...I hope to see you again...real soon.
