Gooble Gooble

I set a goal of finishing the Trot for Hunger 5k within 30 minutes...and my time was 29:51. Woo hoo! That's a 9:37 pace.

Very happy to be under a 10 minute mile pace!  I finished 157. Not sure if that is my total finish place or my place among all the women who participated.  Either way...it's pretty sweet!

The morning was a bit chilly and very foggy. We got to the starting line 30 minutes before the start. I was surprised by the crowd --- close to 3,000 participants.
Having learned my lesson, I pushed toward the front so that I would not waste time weaving around slower runners or walkers.

I didn't really warm up before the race and definitely felt the negative effects of that decision. By the time I got to the 1.5-2 mile mark, I was warmed up and ready to roll. I was surprised to see a friend from running club working the half-point water station. That was a nice surprise and a great boost.

On the loop back I just pressed forward --- pushing one foot in front of the other and kept my eyes open for the finish line.  I actually noticed that I was passing a good number of people on the back leg of the run.

200 yards from the finish, I looked at my watch and realized that I was going to finish very close to my 30 minute goal.  That piece of news kept me moving toward the finish.  As I crossed the finish line I was greeted by a life-sized turkey giving runners a high-five.

Not bad for my first 5k.
