We headed out to the Beltsville Agricultural Research Center (B.A.R.C). It is a facility of the Department of Agriculture. I've heard about riding through here, but have never explored the route.
The BARC stretches from College Park to Bowie and from Greenbelt to Laurel. It's basically farmland. Since it’s a place of business, not a park, much of the facility is off-limits to the public. The parts that are open however, provide a nice place to workout.
Thank goodness we started out early b/c it was so humid.
It was a good ride, though there were some bumping spots. One of the riders flatted early in the ride. I was hoping she would let me help her change her flat so that I could practice, but she headed back to fix it. Oh well.
I stayed in the big ring the whole time and focused on not being so lazy. These folks are faster than I am, which is good. I need the motivation of having someone to chase down.
I need to keep pushing myself hard and especially not konk out on the hills.
We looped through the country roads and knocked out 20 miles.
