Mission Accomplished!

I did it...in training that is!  I ran 12.75 miles today!!!

We finished our final long run of the training program.  Next week we begin to taper in advance of the race on October 4th.

The goal today was to run slightly more distance than 10 miles and also to run many of the streets of the race.

The added bonus for me was that I had to get in a little more distance so that I am prepared for the Baltimore half-marathon that is scheduled for the following Saturday.

I couldn't sleep in advance of the big practice run.  I got up early to hydrate and eat.  In the darkness I embarked on my trip to Georgetown.  It is surprising how many people are awake and training at 6:30 in the morning in the DC area!

Before our regular training run, I got out and ran a mile over the Key Bridge and into Virginia.  The purpose was to stress my feet and muscles today by being on my feet for close to 13 miles so that I would be more comfortable at the half marathon.  The 1 mile run had another benefit.  I think it really helped me to properly warm up and then stretch in advance of the longer training run.  The result was that I had a GREAT training run.  I felt fantastic!  I was sore of course from being on my feet that long, but I was thrilled to have made it.

The weather was fantastic.  I can only hope that race day will be as nice.

As I ran around the DC-area, I was again reminded how lucky we are to live here...surrounded my so much history.

After all these weeks, there is nothing more I can do to prepare.  I am focused on not getting sick or hurt over the next two weeks.
